Screening Event: As Above So Below with Nate Talbot

On the evening of November 15th, the INCUBATOR Art Lab hosted a screening event featuring the work of alumni artist Nate Talbot, as part of the Alumni Artist in Residency. Nate screened two of his films: As Above So Below and Convergence, both of which explore the use of AI technology and machine learning.
During his residency, Nate focused on artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and Bioart while utilizing an electron microscope at the University of Windsor. He shared with the audience his creative process in filming and editing the video As Above So Below. Nate explained how he built and trained a model using data from an electron scanning microscope (ESM), a type of microscope that uses focused beams of electrons to create high-resolution images of a sample's surface.
Nate collected various samples and intentionally incorporated glitches and artifacts produced during the imaging process, using them as key elements in his editing aesthetics and techniques. By blending these imperfections and AI with a live-action film shoot featuring models, Nate merged real life, Bioart, and microscopy, inviting his viewers to explore new possibilities in film, animation, and technology.

Nate Talbot (N8)

Nate Talbot is a 3D motion graphics & AI artist. His practice examines how real objects and living organisms coalesce in the digital realm. Through techniques utilizing digital technology he examines the relationship between the tangible and the intangible– and the invisible connection between digital spaces and esoteric realms. In his work he employs 3D rendering, 3D scanning, digital sculpting, AI animation, AI custom dataset training, and holographics. Talbot has worked with major brands to produce 3D adverts and an AI film, and is also an established crypto-artist. Talbot has exhibited his work in Times Square, Berlin, Art Basel Miami, and in numerous online formats. Talbot received an MFA from the University of Windsor (Canada) and is currently working as a freelancer.
