FEMeeting Exhibition Opening: Elegy for a Cell

Curated by Mireille Bourgeois
June 24th, 4:30 pm—6:30 pm EST
SoCA Gallery, 37 University Avenue East, Armouries Building

On June 24th, FEMeeting Women in Arts, Science, and Technology hosted the FEMeeting Exhibition Opening, ‘Elegy for a Cell’, at the University of Windsor's School of Creative Arts. The exhibition was curated by Mireille Bourgeois of IOTA Institute and featured a surprise flash mob in the bioart lab, showcasing new theatrical lighting, projections and sound renovations.

The group exhibition highlights women artists exploring the intersection of art, science, and technology. Jude Abu Zaineh's installation, "Maqlouba," critiques food politics with non-edible ingredients in Petri dishes. Sarah Bachinger's video, "Elegy of a Glacier," reflects on humanity's impact in the Anthropocene. KS Brewer presents "In(Corruptible)," featuring a CPR manikin in agar to symbolize medical decay, while Catherine Heard's "Phantom" contrasts an organic sculpture with a beating heart animation. Marne Lucas's "HRT {(^)} IRT" uses infrared imaging to explore hormone-related identity changes. McDermott and Tiwari showcase wearable solar power designs. Lastly, Stephanie Rothenberg's "Aquadisia" imagines bioengineered oysters creating a potion that enhances consciousness, raising ethical questions about biotechnological solutions to climate change.
